The building is located in one of the most significant squares of the city center. Its historic context is the reason, why the client chose a reformation of this structure, built in the 70’s. Only a reformation of existing buildings allows maintaining the office use – a completely new construction would have meant to dedicate the building to residential uses.
In this sense our design had to face one important conditioning fact: the limited clearance of each storey. The key to thus winning the competition was our design that integrates the air conditioning system in the façade and permits not having to take down suspended ceilings.
Due to its exposition to Madrid’s main boulevard and its perception by a great amount of passing cars, the ceramic blades of the façade enhance the interaction of transparency and density.
