Bio Istanbul is a hub for advancement in medicine and design, a source of economic growth and a ground-breaking example of ecologically sound urban development. It is at the centre of Turkey’s drive towards a knowledge-based economy. The inspiration of the project is a mixture of two different disciplines; the medical and biological aspect in combination with the Turkish cultural and geological context.
We have used the concept of the “cell” and its multiplications. The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of all known living organisms. It is the smallest unit of life that is classified as a living thing, and is often called the building block of life.
The word cell comes from the Latin “cellula” meaning “a small room”. Therefore, the “Supercampus” symbolizes a living organism formed by “subcampus” and cells. These cells are “buildings´ blocks of life”.
