Spanish Olympic Committee Auditorium
Madrid, Spain

Size / 4,228 m2
Client / Spanish Olympic Committee

Taking part on Madrid’s projection as the future Olympic host, the enlargement of the Spanish Olympic Committee’s Headquarters was embarked upon with the creation of a new adjoining building to house an auditorium, lecture rooms, gymnasium and location for events. The 1,400 sqm top floor, which includes the main access, is intended for the sole use of conferences, with a large extendible auditorium and vestibule. A gallery round its perimeter provides access to the different rooms and separates the interior from the exterior with a glass plane, which can be opened to gain access to and enjoy the patio which lies between the old and the new. The lecture rooms are on the ground floor.

The new pavilion modestly and respectfully lies behind the main building, equalling it in the height of its cornice and width of its body so as not to overshadow it, whilst at the same time submerging the major part of its functional programme.

More than an enlargement, it would be more correct to talk about a culmination.
