At the embassy of Mexico in Spain, presided over by the Embassadress

THE CIDI IBERO-AMERICAN COUNCIL AWARDS THE “EMBLEMATIC WORK 2015” PRIZE TO THE ARCHITECT RAFAEL DE LA-HOZ FOR THE REPSOL HEADQUARTERS IN MADRID

The event was presided over by the Embassadress of Mexico in Spain, Her Excellency Mrs. Roberta Lajous Vargas and the Director of the Cultural Institute of Mexico in Spain, Mr. D. Pablo Raphael de la Madrid as honoured witnesses and by Mr. D. Juan Bernardo Dolores, Chairman of the CIDI Ibero-American Council.

Located in Mexico, the CIDI Ibero-American Council, a non-profit association which links colleges and associations of architects and interior designers from Latin American countries, has awarded Rafael de La-Hoz with the CIDI Emblematic Work Prize 2015 in architecture, in the categories of corporate offices and sustainability, for the Repsol campus of Madrid, Spain.

Located in Méndez Álvaro, in the former expansion industrial district of Madrid, the corporate campus has been designed in the centre of the city, within the perimeter of the plot, overturning a green area at the core of the complex. The resulting atmosphere resembles the “cloister” of a monastery.

The building is one of the most sustainable ones in Europe and has been recently awarded the LEED Platinum certification.

CIDI selected the building among around hundred emblematic works based on the following grounds:

1.The “emblematicity” design and status of a leading company’s corporate offices;
2.The sharp understanding of “Repsol’s personality” as a corporate symbol, a nerve centre, an open space (cloister), a representation of corporate culture and an architectural reference;
3.Its position as a symbol of pride and leadership for the partners/users of the campus;
4.The process of industrial assembly with imperfections that draw it closer to human condition;
5.Its valuable urban concept with interacts with its immediate environment in the urban fabric of Madrid and creates a paradoxical pair of campus inside the city.
6.Its indisputable sustainability features, its care for managing water, energy, using materials and for indoor environmental quality, which generates a major productivity and
7.The Platinum LEED certification, that is, the best LEED certification level worldwide.
